We have entered the holiday season with the early force of nature bringing us a cold and snowy run through the winter solstice. It is a time of high spirits and joy, but also a time that is filled with various emotions of past times and memories. It is a time of gifts and giving, but also a time of reflection on others, some who may not be as fortunate, and some who are simply gifts to all of us.
In observing all of you over the years, I have seen daily acts of incredible kindness, humanity and consideration. Your care for the disadvantaged, the people in need of material goods and personal help, is so common that it is a part of the culture of Henry Ford. This caring is not reserved for the holiday season. It is part of who you are and why you often choose to work in health care. These are not the content of exceptional patient stories. They are the routine way in which most of you view the world. These acts are apart from the day-to-day work that you do to care and comfort our patients through your professional work, the work that will return them to healthier lives. No matter what your role is, direct patient care or office support, you are part of a team that produces the miracles, small and large, that Henry Ford creates each and every day. I cannot imagine a world without you.
Thank you to all of you. For those of you working on the holidays that you celebrate or to allow others to celebrate, thank you giving up your personal time with family and friends to do our important work. I hope this time brings you all that you hope for and all that each of you deserves. For each of you, may you receive peace, calm, warmth and love.
